CRSA SPRINT WIN GOES TO MIDDLETOWN’S BRIAN KRUMMEL

Middletown, NY…The CRSA Series returned to the Orange County Fair Speedway Saturday for their second appearance of the young season. Local speedway favorite Brian Krummel used his experience at the track and not only held off a strong sprint car field but also parked his sportsman in Victory Lane as well.

The hot night started well with the first two of three heat races running off without a hitch. Geoff Quakenbush and Brett Jaycox took the wins respectively. When the third heat took the track, light rain moved in to the speedway and intensified bringing out a red flag and delaying the program forty five minutes. After the delay Emily VanInwegen won the third heat.
Brian Krummel and Christian Rumsey, two local Orange County favorites, brought the twenty five car sprint car field to the start of the twenty lap CRSA feature event. With Krummel jumping to the top spot, caution came early with point leader Scott Goodrich, Chad Miller, and Dana Wagner tangling coming out of turn two ending their racing for the night.

Racing resumed with Krummel leading Rumsey, Jeremy Quick, and John Matrafailo. Racing through the pack saw many side by side battles. With only four laps scored, hard contact in turn four between Brett Jaycox and Steve Meilleur brought out a red flag.
When the red was lifted and the green came back out, Krummel kept the top spot followed by Rumsey, Quick, Matrafailo, and Corey Sparks. Another caution flew on lap nine when Tim Hindley and Sparks tangled in turn four.

Racing continued and Krummel stayed strong holding off Rumsey who stayed into the runner-up spot. The two ran nose to tail lap after lap being followed closely Quick, Matrafailo, and Geoff Quakenbush. The final caution came on lap thirteen with cars tangling in turn four.
Krummel stayed out front with Quick taking second on the last restart. The tight pack would race the final laps with Krummel winning his first ever CRSA Sprint feature. Quick, Matrafailo, Rumsey, and Kyle Smith rounded out the top five.

CRSA NOTES: The Orange County Fair Speedway track crew did an excellent job getting the track back in great condition after the rain then kept the show moving to its completion before the rain returned. It was not a good night for the top three in points. Goodrich and Sparks crashed out of the event while third place man Mike Kiser did not participate. Dalton Herrick was the Hard Charger of the event. This event was part of the Southern Tier Challenge Mini Series between Orange County, Five Mile Point, and Penn Can Speedway. Series Organizer’s Mike and Deb Van Dusen welcomed another new grandchild earlier in the week. CRSA Sprints return to action Saturday June 13th at the Five Mile Point Speedway.
