Krummel Dominates CRSA Feature at Thunder Mountain

CENTER LISLE, NY – Brian Krummel took full advantage of a great starting position on Saturday night at the Thunder Mountain Speedway to take the checkers in the 25-lap Champion Power Equipment CRSA A-Main. The Middletown, N.Y., pilot jumped to the lead early and never looked back while on his way to another series feature win.

“Now that was cool,” stated Krummel. “That is what it’s all about. People held their lines pretty well. The track was really nice. There was an outside and an inside, beautiful job. The race went mostly caution free which was good. I can’t thank the guys enough.”

The feature got off to a rocky start as several cars were collected in a first lap tangle in the fourth corner which forced a second try at the green flag. It was on this attempt that Krummel powered to the cushion to take the lead from Dalton Herrick.

It didn’t take Krummel long to find himself catching the back of the pack as the laps ticked off quickly. He caught traffic on lap four which forced him to pick his way through. This allowed Herrick to close the gap on Krummel as the race moved forward.

Before Krummel could get to halfway, one more caution was shown for a car that spun in the second turn. Krummel was again forced to deal with Herrick as they raced side-by-side into the first corner. Krummel went to his preferred lane on the high-side while Herrick attempted to get the lead by sliding up in front of him to no avail.

While Krummel pulled way, Herrick had his hands full with Dana Wagner. Wagner, a former Modified pilot in the Southern Tier, grabbed second away from Herrick on the 15th lap. Then Wagner looked to gain on Krummel.

Krummel caught traffic again, but this time he wasn’t able to get through as quickly which gave Wagner his opportunity. Wagner closed significantly. With five to go he was within striking distance of Krummel. As they raced out front, series point leader Eddie Strada had made the charge to third from 11th.

“It was a little easy out in clean air and then you had to get through traffic,” said Krummel. “You had to make the right moves and try not to lose your momentum.”

In the final laps Wagner got close but he couldn’t finish the job as he watched Krummel cross the line just a few feet in front of him. Wagner settled for second while Strada was forced to be happy with coming home third.
Brett Jaycox secured fourth at the checkered while another Southern Tier Modified driver, J.R. Hurlburt took home fifth.

24 cars were in attendance with Wagner, Emily VanInwegen and Krummel taking heat race wins.
