Race Report by Steven Ovens – July 7th, 2023 – Shawn Greene photo

(DUNDEE, NY) – “The Canadian Kid” Tomy Moreau may now have to consider “The Canadian Outlaw” as a nickname. Last June of 2022, Moreau rolled his 305 Sprint Car out of the trailer for the very first time and needless to say that very first outing didn’t go as planned.

13 months later, Moreau conquered Outlaw Speedway and collected his second career CRSA Sprints checkered flag and second win of 2023. While Moreau drew the pole starting position for the 25-Lap A-Verdi Storage Containers CRSA Sprints powered by Super Gen Products A-Main it wasn’t an easy, walk away race win.

Moreau took Tyler Groescup’s green flag and would lead the opening lap but was feeling immense pressure from outside pole starter Dillon Paddock. Paddock and Moreau exchanges slidejobs for two-straight laps with Paddock taking the lead up to a Lap 9 yellow flag.

The Lap 9 restart saw Moreau get a great run on the low lane in turns one and two to reclaim the lead as the field clicked off Lap 10. Paddock’s car changed off of that restart and didn’t seem to be the same after getting caught in Moreau’s dirty air.

The benefactor of Paddock’s struggles was defending CRSA Sprints champion Dalton Herrick. Herrick slid his way by Paddock on an Outlaw Speedway surface that was super smooth and changed dramatically throughout the course of the A-Main. Two additional cautions allowed Herrick to close on the tail tank of Moreau and attempt to pull alongside the driver out of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada but Moreau was too strong with the momentum on the top side of the speedway. Herrick would log his fourth Top 5 finish in five CRSA Sprints series shows of 2023 with Paddock third.

“This is amazing, what a year we have had this year,” said Moreau after climbing down from the top wing in victory celebration.

“A year ago we didn’t get a lap in hot laps or the heat and wrecked in the feature in our first ever start. To be a winner here a year later is awesome!”

Back in the pack, Tyler Chartrand and Trevor Years traded sliders and raced wing-to-wing for much of the second half of the race. CRSA Sprints point leader Jordan Hutton went for a 360 spin in turns three and four just prior to the Lap 9 yellow flag. Hutton lost a few spots and kept moving forward and would ultimately rebound for sixth.

Behind all of that, two drivers were slicing and dicing to climb through the twenty-car field. Ray Preston gained ten positions from his nineteenth starting spot to claim the Powdertech Powdercoating Hard Charger of the race.

Adam Depuy logged in a drive to be proud of, gaining nine spots himself after starting seventeenth- earning him the Maguire Family of Dealerships “Magnificent Move of the Race.”

The CRSA Sprints will now head to Utica-Rome Speedway Friday July 14 for a Pit Stop Convenience Stores “I-90 Pit Stop Challenge” event. The series will have schedule announcements about several rained out events coming this next week.

The A-Verdi Storage Containers CRSA Sprints are powered by Super Gen Products.
